After having won two Prix de Rome in 1883 and 1884, Debussy stayed at the Villa Médicis like Bizet and many others before him.  The works he sent back were Le Printemps (inspired by Botticelli’s famous painting) and La Damoiselle élue, a lyric poem for voice and orchestra.
