Once new wave prodigy Danny Elfman has developed a fascination for orchestration, thanks to his incursion into film scores with Tim Burton. This concert shines the spotlight on his talent for symphonic material.

Bernard Hermann, composer of the soundtracks for Hitchcock’s films, is one of the great figures in Danny Elfman’s career. His writing followed these ideas: flamboyant colours, changing harmonies, and representation of fear. Another great figure: Leonard Bernstein and his science of rhythm. In addition to some of Elfman’s great classics, this concert will feature his symphonic and concertante compositions, including an excerpt from his Serenada Schizophrana, premiered in 2005 at Carnegie Hall, and Eleven Eleven, a violin concerto influenced by Shostakovich and Prokofiev. To perform this great music of our time, an orchestra experienced in cinegenic music: the Brussels Philharmonic.
