Sandals Resorts International, the Luxury Included® Caribbean resort company founded by Gordon “Butch” Stewart in 1981 , is delighted to partner with the Cité de la musique – Philharmonie de Paris for its new Jamaica Jamaica! exhibition.

Every Sandals resort sits directly on a stunning beach, on six of the most gorgeous islands in a region famous for its endless white sand expanses, exquisite azure waters and quixotic sunsets. VINCI Construction Grands Projets operates worldwide, and especially in Jamaica, where the Group has been active for nearly 30 years and has carried out several hydraulic sanitation and waste-water treatment facilities over the last 15 years. In August 2016, VINCI Construction Grands Projets and EMCC (VINCI Construction’subsidiaries) won the contract to extend the port of Kingston, Jamaica. A few days after the opening of the enlarged Panama Canal, which allows the passage of containers among the largest in the world, these extension and rehabilitation works represent a strategic challenge for the area. The port of Kingston is ideally positioned at exit of the Panama Canal, and at the crossroads of the North-South and East-West shipping lines. It will thus become one of the three main container terminals in the Caribbean. The long history of VINCI Construction Grands Projets with Jamaica and this recent event naturally led the group to support the Jamaica Jamaica! exhibition.

Air France, an official partner of the Cité de la musique – Philharmonie de Paris, provides logistical support for the major exhibitions of the season, including Jamaica Jamaica!.

From ska to rocksteady, roots reaggae to dub and lover’s rock to dancehall, VP Records is at the heart of Jamaica’s musical evolution. The New York based label is one of the first and currently, largest independent record labels for reggae and dancehall.

Company founders, Vincent and Patricia Chin were present at the birth of reggae music, operating their retail store and eventually the recording studio known as “Randy’s record Mart” at 17 North Parade in Kingston Jamaica. The couple moved their family business to Jamaica, New York in the late 1970’s, establishing VP Records Distributors in 1979. The name of the label is derived from the first letters in the foundersʼ names.

Thanks to the popularity of the riddim sound in the early 2000s, VP Records achieved worldwide success for artists such as Sean Paul, Wayne Wonder, Elephant Man, Gyptian and others. VP Records has acquired the slogan “Miles Ahead in Reggae Music” to signify that they could be considered to be the future of music that derives from the Caribbean. Greensleeves Records was acquired by VP in 2008, and with Greensleevesʼ catalogue of over 12,000 songs, the combined company became the world’s largest reggae company. 2017 is the 40th Anniversary of the founding of Greensleeves Records. In celebration of this achievement, VP Records is a participating sponsor in the exhibition Jamaica Jamaica! at the Cité de la musique – Philharmonie de Paris, which presents Jamaican musical culture through images and ephemera of the genre.
