Second Pierre Boulez Biennial
For its second edition, the Pierre Boulez Biennial presents an extraordinary programme—a dialogue between the musician’s heritage and the broader context of musical history and creation.
Returning as the guest of honour, Daniel Barenboim, accompanied by his Boulez Ensemble and the Staatskapelle Berlin, juxtaposes the music of Pierre Boulez with works by Beethoven, Wagner and Debussy; and the Orchestre de Paris illustrates the composer’s close relationship with French impressionism.
The Ensemble intercontemporain also pays tribute with Répons and Cummings ist der Dichter, along with an aperçu of the new frontiers open to the next generations.
Finally, six pianists who worked closely with Pierre Boulez offer a special performance of his complete works for piano—at once personal diary, sketchbook and laboratory.
Under the artistic direction of Matthias Pintscher, the thirty-one solists of the Ensemble intercontemporain continue to explore the music of our time at the Philharmonie de Paris.
Great orchestras, international soloists, projects which shed new light on music, jazz music, pop music and world music as well as three temporary exhibitions. Catch up with 2020-21 Season’s highlights here.
The video streaming platform Philharmonie Live offers 60 new concerts every year and a collection of archives, available for free. Enjoy our collection of classical music, jazz, pop-rock and world music on your computer, tablet and smartphone.
