The 2011 film The Artist quickly became an international sensation, winning the Best Actor Award (Prix d’interprétation masculine) at Cannes for Jean Dujardin's performance, and Oscars for both Best Picture and Best Actor. Its resounding international success is all the more remarkable in that it is a feature-length film in the style of a silent movie, set during the transition to talking pictures in the 1920s. The musical score by Ludovic Bource includes a portion of Bernard Hermann's score for Vertigo.
