
International lutherie competition
After the success of the first edition in 2022, the Musée de la musique-Philharmonie de Paris and Talents & Violon’celles are organizing the second edition of the International Lutherie Competition from 17th to 21th January 2024.
Open to “Talents of Today” for confirmed luthiers and “Talents of Tomorrow” for students of lutherie, this new edition will be dedicated to the violin with the same desire to promote the excellence of international lutherie and bring out future talents.
The jury
This edition is chaired by Raphaël Pidoux. The jury members are the violinists Tanja Becker-Bender, Roland Daugareil and Jean-Jacques Kantorow, and the luthiers Andrea Frandsen, Silvio Levaggi et Julie Reed-Yeboah.

The instrument
The competitors in the “Talents of Tomorrow” category shall be inspired by the violin from the collection of the Musée de la musique so-called “Sarasate” made by Antonio Stradivari in Cremona in 1724 (inventory number E.1729).

The musicians of the Orchestre de Paris
During the semi-finals and finals, the selected instruments will be played behind screens by the violinists of the Orchestre de Paris, who may award an instrument a “Coup de Cœur”.

Events schedule
For the entire duration of the Competition, the competitors’ instruments will be presented within the permanent collection of the Musée de la musique.
