Ovid gave life to the Greek myth of the sculptor Pygmalion, who falls in love with his ivory statue. Taking inspiration from the theatrical stage from which Rousseau in 1770, after Rameau et Goethe, pulled this subject full of bright potential, German composer Georg Benda and librettist Friedrich Wilhelm Gotter composed a melodrama in 1779 (for spoken voice with musical accompaniment). Philippe Hersant and graphic designer Sandrine Revel (who draws right on the screen) revisit the myth, appropriating the idea of melologue, devised by Berlioz.
