Manfred Trojahn’s love for the French language has led him to undertake a cycle of works based on René Char. The soprano of L’Éternité à Lourmarin sings the words the poet wrote following the death of Albert Camus. And Contrevenir is inspired by the eponymous poem, an ode to disobedience: “Obéissez à vos porcs qui existent. Je me soumets à mes dieux qui n’existent pas. Nous restons gens d’inclémence…” (Obey your pigs who exist; I obey my gods who do not. We remain people of inclemency).
