The Czech spirit in all its dazzling vitality. The fast-paced opening of Martinu’s Double Concerto (1938), written for an out-of-the-ordinary group of soloists, is reminiscent of certain Bartók scores. Its richness is yet to be discovered, while the same cannot be said for the ‘Prague’ Symphony nor for Mozart’s most brilliant and perfect concertos, with their inexhaustible verve. Beneath the fingers of Radu Lupu, accompanied by the extraordinary Vladimir Jurowski, there may well flow a spring of unsuspected truths…
