Following the death of Lorin Maazel, the birthday concert he was planning to conduct with the Münchner Phliharmoniker has been maintained. Valéry Gergiev, his successor at the head of the Bavarian ensemble, will be presenting a programme that perfectly exemplifies the chosen repertoire of the late American conductor and his Munich orchestra. The second part will be entirely devoted to Strauss and will be an opportunity to admire the quality of the orchestra’s sound in this superb repertoire. In the second part of the concert, Argentine cellist Sol Gabetta will be performing Dvorak’s magnificent concerto, which was the most important cello piece of the Romantic period.
