Formed in 2013 just a few dozen metres away, at the Paris Conservatoire, the Arod Quartet recently tackled Haydn’s six string quartets from Opus 76, which “represent the pinnacle of the Classical style, yet are also timeless, offering almost infinite possibilities”. Like Arod to Aragorn, the quartet has strived to be “faithful to the spirit and letter of Haydn’s works”. The four musicians have therefore acquired a new set of bows, modelled on those produced in the 1770s by the famous Tourte brothers. The result? An album released in autumn 2025, a concert at the Cité de la Musique in January 2026 and an excerpt – the “menuetto” from Quartet No. 2 – recorded for Under the Stage a few weeks later. The Arod Quartet then returned to their modern bows to perform a cover of Jacob Collier’s “World O World”.
