Scardanelli is one of the pseudonyms used by Friedrich Hölderlin during the years when, declared insane, he was confined to his tower in Tübingen. The otherworldly, out‑of‑time poetry he produced was Heinz Holliger’s inspiration for a monumental song cycle.
