Because of its serene and bucolic mood, Sibelius's Symphony No. 3, completed in 1907, is sometimes called the 'Northern Pastoral'. As a prelude to this work, Romanian pianist Radu Lupu performs Beethoven's Concerto No. 3, and the first solo flutist of the Orchestre de Paris performs Carl Niesen's Concerto.
