Nikolaï Lugansky recorded the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini in 2006. In 1934, it was Rachmaninoff himself who gave its premiere under the baton of Leopold Stokowski. Five years later, the composer suggested Fokine turn it into a ballet around the idea of a pact that Paganini could have made with the devil.
