Edgar Varèse was deeply interested in the ways technology invades our civilisation—and in the ways it might be harnessed to benefit music. His Poème électronique stems from this reflection and closes a concert that begins with two acoustic works by another musician who shared Varèse’s interest in the links that bind art and science. Following in the tradition of Xenakis and Varèse, the French premiere from Franck Bedrossian brings together both instrumental forces and electronic explorations.
