A Berliozian season’s end for the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who became its Musical Director in September 2018.

The Canadian conductor dedicates this second evening in his two-part concert series to Berlioz, a composer for whom he has a particular fondness. In Symphonie fantastique, Yannick Nézet-Séguin has conducted the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (of which he was recently appointed artistic director ‘for life’), as well as the Philharmonic Orchestras of Rotterdam (for a critically acclaimed album) and of Berlin. He is joined by Joyce Di Donato for excerpts of the opera Les Troyens, a score in which the singer excels: ‘I love singing [Berlioz] operas in concert version’, she remarked during an interview on France Musique in 2018. ‘…It is a real challenge, because it all rides on the voice. And when it works, it is far more explosive. It pierces straight into the hearts of the audience’.
