The Will Gregory Moog Ensemble

Concert
Le Studio - Philharmonie
Duration: about 1h05
With this recreational project, Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory pays tribute to the best-known analogue synthesizer.

For the past 20 years, with singer Alison Goldfrapp, Will Gregory has explored his musical obsessions in nearly every direction, with inspirations ranging from Morricone and John Barry soundtracks to Glam-disco, alluring electro, English folk and Scandinavian pop. A transformer of sound, melodist and producer, he is also a keyboard collector and fervent enthusiast of the Moog—the king of analogue synths—going as far as to create this new Ensemble in its honour. With nine other musicians, including Portishead’s Adrian Utley and orchestra conductor Graham Fitkin, Gregory has compiled a varied repertoire, mixing classical music, film scores and original compositions. From Bach to Wendy Carlos’s score for A Clockwork Orange and the music of John Carpenter, the pieces in the programme are modulated by the various synths, each of which is introduced on par with the musicians. An epic retro-futuristic odyssey awaits.
