In the early 2000s, New York was the global epicentre of rock, swarming with talents and creative emulation recalling the city’s punk movement in the 1970s. This protean revival gave rise to a number of groups inspired by post-punk hybrid styles, with aggressive guitar and funk-inflected rhythms. Liars, Radio 4 and !!! made their marks, but The Rapture was the frontrunner, with dancefloor hits like ‘House of Jealous Lovers’ or ‘How Deep Is Your Love?’ and three audacious albums. After a six-year hiatus to focus on his family and a foray into electronic music, bandleader Luke Jenner returns to the stage with vigour. We wager The Rapture looks forward to being back in Paris, where in 2011 they recorded part of their third and latest album to date, In the Grace of Your Love, under the watchful eye of the sorely missed Philippe Zdar.


Opening act: Sons of Raphael

A new revelation in the British rock scene, Sons of Raphael deliver psychedelic melodies and arrangements tinted with 1970s sounds.
A fraternal duo with brazen ambitions. We have seen this picture before on the British rock scene, but Loral and Ronnel Raphael have what it takes to make their own mark: an innate sense of melody, a slight obsession with the 1970s, but also an unexpected inspiration—the Bible—that infuses their lyrics with spiritual reflections. Hailing from Hampstead in North West London, the two self-taught musicians drew notice in 2018 with the EP A Nation of Bloodsuckers, which they followed up with the single ‘He Who Makes the Morning Darkness’ in autumn 2019. This foretaste of their first album, mixed by Philippe Zdar shortly before his untimely death, portrays Sons of Raphael as a British response to American groups like The Lemon Twings and MGMT.
