Outside of Shanghai, kunqu opera continues to be practiced by a handful of exceptional singers, who are performing in Paris tonight for the first time. The famous tale of The Peony Pavilion (late sixteenth century) recounts the story of a young girl who dreams of a young man, falls in love with him, and gives herself to him before finally dying. But the young man in question attempts to bring her back to life...
