While his art sometimes brings the listener to faraway lands, it is also the intimacy of his coupling with the piano that a recital by Barenboim reveals. His recent album titled On My New Piano (Deutsche Gramophone, 2016) is a tribute, with help from Scarlatti, Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt, to the new instrument he commissioned from major piano maker Chris Maene.
