The Franco-German Demos Orchestra, created on the initiative of the Philharmonie de Paris and the Franco-German Youth Office, is giving a concert at the Panthéon as part of the 60th anniversary of the Franco-German Friendship Treaty, known as the Élysée Treaty, to be celebrated on 22 January 2023.

As part of the 60th anniversary of the Franco-German Friendship Treaty, the Franco-German Youth Office liaised with the Philharmonie de Paris to create an orchestra comprising young people from France and Germany.

A string and percussion orchestra was formed, composed of 70 young people aged 11 to 17, accompanied on stage by 10 professional musicians. Half of the participants were recruited through two German partner organisations, HANGARMUSIK and Al-Farabi Musikakademie, on the basis of musical and social criteria similar to those of the Démos initiative. The second half of the orchestra is made up of young people from a selection of advanced Démos orchestras in the Hauts-de-France, Grand-Est, Auvergne-Rhône Alpes and Île-de-France regions. They are also enrolled in conservatories and music schools in their regions.

From October 2022 to January 2023, the young musicians prepared the programme, consisting of works by German and French composers, in their respective regions and with their tutors. They then are welcomed at the Philharmonie de Paris from 17 to 21 January to get to know each other, follow an intense rehearsal schedule and prepare for the concert on 22 January at the Panthéon, under the guidance of tutors from both countries and the baton of conductor Anna-Sophie Brüning.
