Two strong works from African-American composers, both as essential parts of the rich repertoire of the twentieth century as Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue. Zimmerman’s Concerto offers a sombre and painful counterpoint to the irresistible Cuban accents from Jenny Peña Campo.
