This concert is one of the major events of this year's festival. It has been nine years since the former lead singer of the Talking Heads appeared on a Parisian stage, and fourteen years since he released his last solo album. Set for release in early March, David Byrne’s new LP American Utopia is his direct response to the turbulence shaking America since Trump’s arrival in the White House, created in collaboration with young successors in music (Oneohtrix Point Never and Sampha) and produced in part by Brian Eno. Born out of the desire not to give in to cynicism or despair, this new chapter in a discography spanning forty years, with collaborations on every continent, returns its author to his rightful place: that of an incomparable storyteller, a musician whose ideas irrigate the entire contemporary pop world, a singer with an unmistakeable, convulsive voice, and a brilliant performer whose group and solo shows are indelibly etched into countless memories. For his only performance in France this summer, the New York aesthete will play his new repertoire and a myriad of classics with their distinctive groove, songs whose initial modernity has never worn off.
