An emotional roller coaster with two magnetically charismatic figures: English singer and guitarist Anna Calvi, six years after her first concert at Days Off, and American musician Perfume Genius, back this spring with a flamboyant fifth album.

1/ Perfume Genius
The journey of Mike Hadreas, otherwise known as Perfume Genius, is one of affirmation and fulfilment, both personal and artistic. Released in the early 2010s, his first two albums (Learning and Put Your Back N 2 It) revealed extreme sensitivity and a chaotic past: a violent family history, being bullied as an openly gay teen, isolation and substance abuse were woven into songs both fragile and strong, performed solo on piano. In 2014, Too Bright marked a spectacular shift towards a full, ample sound and dense, electric songs in which Mike Hadreas unabashedly claims the part of flamboyant singer. With No Shape, this metamorphosis was complete; hailed as one of the best albums of 2017, it was nominated at the Grammy Awards for the incredible production by Blake Mills, once again at the helm for Perfume Genius’s new album, coming out this spring. Mike Hadreas’s on-stage persona has changed, too, and his charisma is staggering.

2/ Anna Calvi
Since breaking onto the scene in the early 2010s, Anna Calvi has been a compelling figure with her impressive voice and guitar playing, along with a charismatic presence that gives her concerts a magnetic force. She exudes a mix of strength and vulnerability reminiscent of Jeff Buckley or PJ Harvey. Even before she had an album out, Nick Cave made no mistake, inviting her to open for his shows with Grinderman. But Anna Calvi’s days as an opening act were short-lived; she was propelled to the forefront of the British rock scene the moment her debut album was released in 2011. Since then, she has unleashed her artistry in three additional albums. The ambitious Hunter (2018) explores openly political, queer and feminist themes though ten intense songs. This spring, Anna Calvi is presenting a reworked version of the record with Hunted, a collection of demos, with vocal contributions by Charlotte Gainsbourg, Courtney Barnett, Joe Talbot (IDLES) and Julia Holter.
