After studying at the Mulhouse Conservatoire, Frédéric Mellardi was awarded a First Prize in trumpet at the Paris National Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 1988, whilst studying under Marcel Lagorce. He also won a First Prize at the Porcia International Competition (Italy) in 1996.

Initially principal trumpeter at the Lyon Opera, he joined the Orchestre de Paris as principal trumpeter in October 1997.

Frédéric Mellardi gives numerous concerts as a soloist throughout Europe and in Japan, where he regularly holds masterclasses. In 1999, he won the Victoires de la Musique Classique award for his contribution to the recording of the complete chamber music of Francis Poulenc, released by RCA, and in 2004, he was selected as principal trumpeter of the ‘Super World Orchestra’, an orchestra formed in Japan bringing together a range of the world’s finest instrumentalists.
