Jonathan Reith

PRINCIPAL TROMBONE

Principal trombonist with the Orchestre de Paris since 2014, Jonathan Reith has established himself as one of the most talented trombonists of his generation.

In September 2015, Jonathan Reith was awarded second prize at the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich. Having taken up the trombone in Aix-en-Provence, where he was born, Jonathan Reith continued his musical studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon in Michel Becquet’s class, graduating with honours in 2010.

Shortly afterwards, he joined the Orchestre National de France, a position he held until 2014. Jonathan Reith has been a full member of the Verbier Festival since 2010. First as a member of its orchestra, then of its chamber orchestra, and finally, since 2015, as trombone coach at the Verbier Festival Music Camp – a programme directed by Daniel Harding that aims to teach young musicians aged 15 to 17 the skills of orchestral playing.

He also regularly gives masterclasses both in France and abroad.

Jonathan Reith has also had the opportunity to perform with ensembles such as the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Opéra de Lyon and the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, amongst others. Throughout his career, he has performed under the baton of leading conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Valery Gergiev, Riccardo Muti, Daniel Harding, Paavo Järvi, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniele Gatti, Herbert Blomstedt, Charles Dutoit, Myung-Whun Chung, David Zinman and Semyon Bychkov.
He is also a prize-winner of the Prague Spring International Competition.
