The Philharmonie de Paris actively supports emerging musicians through talent spotting, springboard and professional development actions.

La Maestra

La Philharmonie de Paris and the Paris Mozart Orchestra present the first edition of the International Competition for Women Conductors (Concours International de Cheffes d’Orchestre), to be held from Monday 16 to Thursday 19 March 2020.

The Philharmonie offers confirmed amateurs and professional musicians the opportunity to hone their skills under the instruction of a renowned artist, in a repertoire resonating with the season’s programming.

Master Class in Conducting for Young Women Conductors

With Jean-François Verdier, musical director of the Orchestre Victor Hugo Franche-Comté.

During the Orchestres en fête ! (Orchestra Festival) weekend, the Philharmonie de Paris and the Orchestre Victor Hugo Franche-Comté join forces to offer young women pursuing careers in conducting this special opportunity to work on public performance with a professional orchestra and its artistic director.

Selection process
Four applicants under age 30 will be selected.

Prior to the master class, the selected applicants will receive collective career development training, an individual photo shoot and a video recording of their working session. No registration fee required. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and lodging.

Master Class in Singing

With Angélique Kidjo

During the Africa weekend, Angélique Kidjo invites singers from all backgrounds (folk/traditional, classical, improvised music, etc.) to work on the practice of singing in styles in which she is a specialist.
The class will also be punctuated by discussion with the artist about her musical experiences.

Selection process

Sixteen applicants will be selected.

String Quartets

During the Biennale de Quatuors à cordes (String Quartet Biennial), the Philharmonie offers young musicians and emerging ensembles the opportunity to work on and showcase their project while developing their professional network.

String Quartet Workshop

With Alfred Brendel

The great pianist will work with the young string quartets on pieces by Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert.

Selection process

Several selected quartets will be invited to perform in public.
No registration fee required. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and lodging.

International Quartet Recital

This recital day gives each emerging ensemble the opportunity to present itself to an international artistic committee of reputed professionals from the music world. Open to the public, the day will alter between musical performance and discussion with the guest panel.

Selection process

A selection of quartets from around the world will perform before an artistic committee.

Springboard for Young Quartets

This third edition of the Springboard continues the talent spotting and showcasing actions to help boost the careers of young musicians and emerging ensembles.

Six quartets will be selected from the eligible applicants (students in higher education, musicians pursuing musical careers) will be invited to perform in public before a jury of professionals. This initiative showcases the participants’ project (repertoire, presentation, etc.) as well as their artistry.

The winners take part in a programme to support their professional project and receive assistance for developing their communication tools.
