Vicens Prats
PRINCIPAL FLUTE
Vicens Prats studied music at the Barcelona Conservatoire. In 1982, he was awarded first prize for flute at the Jeunesses Musicales Competition in Spain and was a prize-winner at the Maria Canals Competition in Barcelona the following year. In Paris, he studied under Ida Ribeira, Michel Debost and Jean-Pierre Rampal before being unanimously awarded first prize for flute at the Paris Conservatoire in 1984, as well as first prize for chamber music in Christian Lardé’s class. In 1985, he was a prize-winner at the Kobe International Flute Competition in Japan.
Principal flutist with the Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse from 1987 to 1991, Vicens Prats was appointed principal flutist of the Orchestre de Paris in January 1991.
Alongside his role as principal flutist with the Orchestre de Paris, Vicens Prats is actively involved in teaching: he gives masterclasses around the world and is a professor at the Catalonia College of Music in Barcelona.
