Sébastien Giot

PRINCIPAL OBOE

After studying both violin and oboe in his father’s class at the Perpignan Regional Conservatoire, Sébastien Giot was admitted, at the top of his class, to the Lyon Conservatoire – CNSMDL, where he studied under Jean-Christophe Gayot and Guy Laroche and was unanimously awarded first prize in oboe. At the age of twenty, he joined the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra as principal oboist and took up a teaching post at the Conservatoire as well as at the Académie supérieure des arts du Rhin (higher education division).

Holder of the Certificate of Aptitude (CA) for oboe teaching, between 2001 and 2004 he also won no fewer than five international prizes: Tokyo, Petritoli, Toulon, the ‘European Young Concert Artists in Paris’ – which he shared with pianist Lise de la Salle – and the ‘International Young Concert Artists’ in New York. Following these accolades, he was selected by the Association Française pour l’Action Artistique to take part in the “Déclic” programme, which aims to promote young French artists abroad and to record a debut CD. He performs as a soloist and gives masterclasses in numerous countries, including the United States, China, Japan, Pakistan, Spain, Thailand, Brazil, Malaysia and South Korea...

A passionate chamber musician, he is a member of the Erasme Quintet (an ensemble comprising soloists from the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra) and also performs alongside artists such as Jean-Yves Thibaudet, François-Frédéric Guy, Emmanuel Pahud, Marc Coppey, Maurice Bourgue, Nemanja Radulović and Roland Pidoux… He is regularly invited to perform as principal oboist with the prestigious Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Robin Ticciati, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Daniel Harding and Bernard Haitink.

In September 2024, he will join the Orchestre de Paris as principal oboist. During the 2024/2025 season, in addition to his concerts with the Orchestre de Paris under the baton of Klaus Mäkelä, he will also perform as a soloist alongside Nemanja Radulović, with whom he has just recorded Bach’s Double Concerto for Erato-Warner Classics.
