Delphine Biron
Cello
Born in 1983, Delphine Biron began studying the cello at the Nantes Regional Conservatoire, in Danièle Mérand’s class. At the age of fifteen, she entered the Paris National Conservatoire of Music and Dance, studying under Michel Strauss.
A prize-winner at the Epernay String Competition and the Concours des jeunes talents de l’Ouest, she has performed as a soloist with the Orchestre de Bretagne and various ensembles from Nantes on tours throughout western France. With the support of Ingelheim Laboratories and the Quatuor 92 association, she gave numerous solo recitals in France, combining classical and contemporary repertoire.
In 2002, Delphine Biron became a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra under the baton of Vladimir Ashkenazy. In June 2003, at the Paris Conservatoire, she was awarded first prize in cello with ‘mention très bien’, followed a year later by the string quartet prize in Hae-Sun Kang’s class and the sonata prize in Alain Meunier’s class.
Delphine Biron regularly gives solo and chamber music concerts in France, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Finland and Sweden. In September 2004, she took part in the Lucerne Festival’s 20th-Century Academy, directed by Pierre Boulez. Since then, she has been invited to work with the Ensemble Intercontemporain, collaborates with composers of her own generation and is a member of several contemporary music ensembles such as Multilatérales and Smash-Ensemble.
In November 2005, she became a principal player with the Orchestre de Paris.
