Stéphanie Huang

PRINCIPAL CELLO

Stéphanie Huang is a prize-winner at the 2022 Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in Belgium, where she also won both audience prizes (the Canvas-Klara Prize and the Musiq3 Prize), the Grand Prix at the 2015 Suggia International Cello Competition in Porto, First Prize at the 2021 Società Umanitaria International Competition in Milan, and was named ADAMI Classique’s ‘Revelation of the Year’ for 2021 in France.

Stéphanie Huang has performed as a soloist with the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Mulhouse Symphony Orchestra, the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto, the Brussels Philharmonic, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Wallonia Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of Renaud Capuçon, Augustin Dumay, Pierre Dumoussaud, Michael Sanderling, Stéphane Denève, Joana Carneiro and James Feddeck. It performs regularly at numerous national and international festivals (Evian, Deauville, La Roque d’Anthéron, Biot, Verbier, Gstaad, Brussels, Schiermonnikoog, Helsinki…) with Renaud Capuçon, Sylvia Huang, Paul Zientara, Anna Agafia, Gérard Caussé, Guillaume Bellom, Keigo Mukawa…

Born in Belgium into a family of musicians, Stéphanie Huang began playing the cello at a very young age. She won First Prize at the Dexia Competition and made her debut at the age of twelve at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, performing Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme. After graduating in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree from the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brussels under Jeroen Reuling, she continued her studies with Marc Coppey and Emmanuelle Bertrand (chamber music) at the Paris Conservatoire – CNSMDP, and with Gary Hoffman (Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel), winning numerous awards (from the Spes, Meyer, Kriegelstein, Safran and Banque Populaire foundations) .

In June 2024, she won the competition for the post of principal cellist with the Orchestre de Paris, joining the orchestra in January 2025.

She plays a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume cello, generously loaned by the Adelus Endowment Fund.
