Anne-Sophie Basset
CELLO
Born in 1984, Anne-Sophie Basset began playing the cello at the age of 8 in Sylvie Basset’s class at the CNR in Caen, where she also studied piano with Marie-Pascale Talbot.
In 2003, she enrolled at the Paris Conservatoire – CNSMDP in Philippe Muller’s class. In 2007, she was awarded the cello prize with the distinction ‘very good, unanimously’, and went on to study chamber music with Claire Désert. She then went on to study with Jean-Guihen Queyras at the Stuttgart Hochschule, where she was awarded her Master’s degree in 2009. She was accepted into the Académie de l’Orchestre de Paris in 2005 and, the following year, joined the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester for two tours, one of which was with Claudio Abbado. As a prize-winner in the ‘Jeunes talents de l’Ouest’ competition, she was invited to perform several solo concerts with Lionel Bringuier and the Orchestre de Bretagne. In 2007 and 2008, she played with the Verbier Festival Symphony Orchestra, on several occasions as principal cellist, before joining the Chamber Orchestra in 2009. Cellist Richard Duven invited her to take part in the Zermatt Festival, where she had the opportunity to perform the Brandenburg Concertos with members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. She was then accepted into the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (BRSO) Academy, where she worked for a year under the baton of Mariss Jansons and took part in numerous chamber music concerts with members of the orchestra. She was a member of the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra (WDR) from 2009 to 2016 and, thanks to the radio broadcaster’s close support for the Kimbanguist Symphony Orchestra, she had the opportunity to teach the cello section in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Since 2012, she has been regularly invited to perform with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and, since 2023, has been a member of the Cappella Andrea Barca, following a personal invitation from its founder, Sir András Schiff. Chamber music also plays an important role in her musical life. Anne-Sophie has performed with musicians such as José Maria Blumenschein, Kai Frömbgen, Pascal Moraguès, Ilya Rashkovskiy, Pierre Fouchenneret and Régis Pasquier.
In September 2016, she joined the Orchestre de Paris.
