Igor Boranian
DOUBLE BASS
Igor Boranian, born in 1972, began playing the double bass at the age of eight at the Nantes National Conservatoire (C.N.R.). A little later, during a workshop, he met Daniel Marillier, a soloist with the Paris Opera, who encouraged him to make a career of playing the instrument.
At the age of sixteen, after winning a gold medal at the Nantes Conservatoire (C.N.R.), he enrolled at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) in J.M. Rollez’s class. Four years later, having graduated from the CNSM with a first prize, he secured his first post in an orchestra, the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire. Then, six years later, he joined the Orchestre de Paris, where he currently holds his post.
Alongside his orchestral work, he is the double bassist with the chamber music ensemble Carpe Diem, with whom he performs regularly at numerous venues (Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the BBC Proms in London, the Cité de la Musique, and the Folle Journée in Nantes).
He has also been a teacher at the Carpe Diem Academy since 2002.
