Francisco Lourenço

Born in Lisbon in 1997 into a family of musicians, Francisco Lourenço performs regularly as a soloist, chamber musician or as part of an orchestra. He was artist-in-residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, alongside Miguel Da Silva.
A member of the Orchestre de Paris since 2023, Francisco Lourenço served as principal viola of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and as a trainee with the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, whilst also collaborating with orchestras such as the Orchestre national de France, the Ensemble intercontemporain, the European Union Youth Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Staatskapelle Dresden, amongst others.
In chamber music, he has performed with musicians such as Christoph Poppen, Augustin Dumay, Gary Hoffman, Clara-Jumi Kang and Frank Braley… Francisco Lourenço was awarded first prize for viola at the Prémio Jovens Músicos (a competition organised by Portuguese classical radio), the European Union Prize for Classical Competitions for Youth, and second prize at the Prémio de Interpretação Frederico de Freitas. He graduated from the University of Aveiro at the top of his class, under the guidance of Professor António Pereira, before continuing his studies at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP) in the class of David Gaillard and Nicolas Bône, with a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
