Marie Poulanges

Viola

In 1993, Marie Poulanges was admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where she began three years of study in Jean Sulem’s class. In 1996, she was unanimously awarded a First Prize in viola and a First Prize in chamber music.

From 1998 to 2000, she continued her studies with an advanced course in string quartet, whilst having already been a member of the Orchestre de Paris since 1997. These years of training enabled her to work with some of the greatest chamber musicians of the time, such as the members of the Borodin Quartet, the Hagen Quartet, the Alban Berg Quartet, the Lasalle Quartet and the Tokyo Quartet.

She now divides her musical time between the Orchestre de Paris, her three children, chamber music concerts and a whole host of music-related projects! Indeed, her love of music regularly leads her to work with young audiences, writing programmes (seven concerts for young children produced with the Orchestre de Paris since 2012).

Her musical experiences have also led her into teaching, including a four-year collaboration on the DEMOS project, which is a programme providing
group music lessons for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Since 2008, driven by her passion for sharing her knowledge and keen to ensure that concerts are not confined to the cultural seasons of major cities, she has been the artistic director of the festival “Le 8 de Montcabrier”, which brings together a large number of talented musicians every summer in the countryside of the Lot region for chamber music concerts.
