Phuong-Maï Ngô
Violin
Phuong-Maï Ngô was awarded first prize in violin at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in 1982 and first prize in chamber music in 1983.
After completing an advanced violin course at the same institution (in 1983, she was a prize-winner at the Tibor Varga International Competition in Switzerland; 1984, awarded an honourable mention in the final of the J.B. Viotti International Competition in Vercelli, Italy), she travelled to Canada to attend masterclasses in violin and chamber music at the Banff Centre School of Fine Arts, which gave her the opportunity to meet and perform with artists such as Menahem Pressler, Maurice Bourgue, György Sebõk, Anton Kuerti and Anner Bylsma.
On her return to France, Phuong-Maï Ngô undertook an advanced chamber music course at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) specialising in string sextets, before becoming a full member of the Orchestre de Paris in 1987.
In 1991, she helped found the Orchestre des Champs-Elysées under the baton of Philippe Herreweghe.
Between 1993 and 2013, as a member of the Ensemble Baroque de Limoges under the direction of Christophe Coin, she took part in chamber music concerts with the ensemble’s soloists and recorded string quintets from Félicien David’s *The Four Seasons* with them.
In 2005, at the Ravinia International Festival (Chicago), she had the honour of performing A. Dvořák’s Piano Quintet with Christoph Eschenbach.
Since 2013, she has been performing regularly on period instruments with the Cappella Gabetta.
