Eric Sammut
PRINCIPAL PERCUSSION
Eric Sammut became principal percussionist with the Orchestre de Paris in 1998, having been awarded a First Prize in percussion at the Lyon Conservatoire in 1989 and an International First Prize for marimba in New York in 1995.
He performs regularly in France, across Europe, as well as in Japan and the United States, and has composed numerous pieces for marimba and percussion ensemble, published in France, the United States and Japan. He has been invited on numerous occasions to sit on the jury for international competitions (Rochester, 1998; Paris, 2003 and 2006; Shanghai, 2005; Fermo, 2009). He has been a marimba teacher at the CRR in Paris and at the Royal Academy of Music in London since 2004.
He has appeared on numerous recordings and videos with the Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Orchestre d’Auvergne, the Orchestre national de Lyon, the Minnesota Orchestra, and, of course, the Orchestre de Paris. His latest recording, “Sailing in Seoul”, is devoted to two concertos he composed and performs as soloist – one for marimba and the other for vibraphone – accompanied by the ensemble Les Cordes de Seoul.
