Pascal Moraguès

PRINCIPAL CLARINET

Pascal Moraguès joined the Orchestre de Paris in 1981 as principal clarinet. He was the youngest member of the orchestra. It was also at this time that, together with his two brothers, Pierre (horn) and Michel (flute), he formed the Moraguès Quintet, completed by David Walter (oboe) and Patrick Vilaire (bassoon), which Sviatoslav Richter chose to record Beethoven’s Piano Quintet.

His career as a soloist has brought Pascal Moraguès together with the Orchestre de Paris on several occasions, notably for Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto. He has performed under the baton of Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Semyon Bychkov, Carlo Maria Giulini, Zubin Mehta, Emmanuel Krivine, Frans Brüggen… He performs chamber music alongside Christian Zacharias, Elena Bashkirova, Oleg Maisenberg, Joseph Kalichstein, Schlomo Mintz, Joshua Bell…

Pascal Moraguès has been teaching at the Paris National Conservatoire of Music and Dance since 1995 and in Osaka, Japan, since 2004. He also gives numerous masterclasses.
