I'm Kayla, a professional operatic contralto singer and voice educator from New Zealand.

I teach classical, musical theatre and contemporary styles, and I ground everything I do in voice science and anatomically accurate language, alongside a trauma-informed approach.

I work with students from beginners to professionals. Many come to me for the following reasons:

• preparing for auditions, performances, recordings and other public singing engagements
• experiencing technical challenges or tension, without having found accurate information to address them
• wanting to understand their voice type and the repertoire best suited to it
• experiencing fear or trauma related to their voice and wanting a safe, informed space to work through it
• wanting to connect with their voice and understand it better
• wanting to build musicianship skills, and sometimes music theory knowledge, alongside vocal work

Most of my clients prefer to work in English, though I also speak French and am happy to work in either language.

Current availability

• Flexible and one-off lessons: Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, according to my booking calendar (more availability during the school holidays)
• Weekly lessons: Thursdays, though flexible lessons can often work out to be more or less weekly too
